Nathan Swarey
Hello! I am Nathan Swarey, but most people just call me Nate. I’ve been married to a wonderful woman named Liz since 2008. We have a son named Logan.
I grew up in Long Island VA – a post office, a rail road crossing, and a bridge. Long Island is known solely for the fun float day that happens in June every year.
My parents are Irvin and Sharon Swarey – they provided me with a Christian home and did there best to teach me to love the Lord as well as the values of honesty and hard work.
I went to Bethel Mennonite school, a private school on 501 between Gladys and Rustburg. I attended Bethel Mennonite Church growing up, and my wife and I still attend there.
At the age of 16 I needed a summer job, so I worked with a crew that built turn-key custom homes. The following summer I worked for a roofing contractor. And the following summer after graduating high school I went to work for Archadeck of Lynchburg. While working for Archadeck I learned the best ways to build decks, screen porches and sun rooms.
After working for Archadeck for four years I decided that I needed more experience framing and finishing houses. I went back and worked for the contractor who I had worked for when I was 16 years old. I worked for him almost four more years.
It was at this point that Kendal and I started doing side work together to make extra money. We got so busy working evenings and weekends that we decided to make the plunge and start a home Improvement business.
We officially became H&S Improvements the first part of 2011 – H&S being short for Hostetler and Swarey Home Improvements. Since then the Lord has blessed us richly with a good customer base, and, so far, with plenty of work.
Kendal Hostetler
Hey there, I am Kendal Hostetler – the second half of H&S. I live in Glady’s VA with my wife Christina and son Dimitri. We’ve been married since 2008.
I was born in Great Falls, Montanta. From an early age I was by my dads side learning about woodworking. When I was fourteen years old I started working each summer with my dad.
At 20 years old I moved to Belize to do voluntary service for two years. It was while I was there that I met and married my wife Christina. I stayed in Belize for another two years. Two of these four years I spent being foreman in a large cabinet shop.
In 2008 my wife and I moved back Virginia where Nathan and I started our own business, first on the side and then full time.
We really take pride in our work. Finishing a project and knowing that it is well done is quite satisfying. We love what we do and we hope that it shows in the work that we do.
Our goal is to never leave a customer unhappy, and we have been blessed with plenty of work. So thanks… we hope to continue to be able to serve you in the future.
